Prime minister's questions

Gordon Brown has told MPs there will be a "0% rise" in total spending from 2013-14, a statement which was met with laughter on the Tory benches.

Conservative leader David Cameron described the prime minister's performance as "feeble" and quipped "his answer gets 0%".

For his part, Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg criticised both the Tories and the government for engaging in what he described as a "bogus debate" on public spending in order "to avoid telling the truth" about the nation's finances.
