Leading Liberal Democrat MPs will repay any profits made from second homes for which they have claimed parliamentary expenses, party leader Nick Clegg says.

The promise comes after revelations were made in The Daily Telegraph that Liberal Democrats claimed costs including a leather rocking chair, a trouser press, and a flat used by an MP's daughter.

Gordon Brown has promised that all payments made over the past four years will be independently inspected but Conservative leader David Cameron has accused him of failing to show leadership on the issue.

Gary O'Donoghue reports.
