The Labour MP John McDonnell has been suspended from the Commons for five days after he protested about the Government's backing for the expansion of Heathrow.

Mr McDonnell, whose constituency includes Heathrow, walked to the Despatch Box close to where the Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon was speaking and removed the ceremonial mace.

He shouted that the decision to expand Heathrow "was a disgrace" to the country.
