David Cameron has attacked Gordon Brown on knife crime, asking why the prime minister could not be "straight with people" about shock tactics for knife offenders.

The prime minister responded by detailing the government plans to curb anti-social behaviour by families.

Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg then called into question what the government is doing to protect low income families in an approaching "winter of discontent".
