Harriet Harman now holds five government positions
Harriet Harman has been appointed as secretary of state for equalities - bringing to five the number of government and party posts she holds.

She is already Leader of the Commons, deputy Labour Party leader, party chairwoman and minister for women.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced her latest appointment on the day Parliament finishes for summer recess.

Before the announcement, the Tories had nicknamed her "Four Hats Harman" as she juggles her new roles under Mr Brown.
