Eleven acts, plus other guidelines, cover immigration and asylum
The Home Office plans to simplify the "very complex" immigration and asylum laws, minister Liam Byrne has said.

A public consultation will run until 29 August on how to reform the 11 Acts and dozens of other regulations, some from 1971, which govern immigration.

The complexity contributes to delays and mistakes, Mr Byrne said.

Tory immigration spokesman Damian Green said: "If passing new laws solved the immigration crisis, we would have the safest borders in the world".
