Consultant to the Princess Royal Trust for Carers, working on national policy issues - published two research reports (with colleague, Malcolm Clarke).
WHAT WERE YOU LIKE AT SCHOOL?
Mainly hard-working but not as committed to all subject areas (and hopeless at art and chemistry).
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO POLITICS?
I wanted to work to improve quality of life and rebuild communities destroyed by Thatcherism in the 80s and 90s.
WHAT'S THE BEST/WORST THING ABOUT BEING AN MP?
Best - being able to solve problems affecting people's lives/ make policy changes that will improve the constituency/country/other countries now or in the future.
Worst - the time it can take to solve problems for people, also issues on which change cannot be made.
WHO IS YOUR HERO?
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE SONG/PIECE OF MUSIC?
No single favourite. My current eight for Desert Island Discs would be: Bob Dylan - Its all over now, Baby Blue; Billy Bragg - Between the wars; Pulp - Common People; Che Gelida Manina/Si, Mi chiamano Mimi - La Boheme; Sempre Libera - La Traviata; Cantique de Jean Racine - Faure; Otis Redding - Try a little tenderness and Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR FASHION SENSE?
I don't get time to shop for clothes.
WHAT'S YOUR IDEA OF A GOOD NIGHT OUT?
Sharing a good meal with friends or going to a live music performance (concert/opera/other), we also enjoy stand-up comedy performances.
