Star guest: Staff line up with the ex-US president

When Bill Clinton got a late-night bout of the snack attacks while visiting Labour's conference in Blackpool, he just decided to pop out for a snack with film star friend Kevin Spacey.

It may be normal for the former US president - but unsurprisingly it stunned staff at the fast food restaurant.

The celebrities paid a visit to the McDonald's just before closing time at 11pm on Tuesday.

And then President Clinton recalled the visit, and the people he met, in his speech to Labour delegates on Wednesday.

McDonald's shift manager Barry Griezans said secret service agents had arrived at the restaurant before the star guests arrived.

"I saw a group walking towards the restaurant with Bill Clinton slap bang in the middle, you could recognise him by his hair," the 20-year-old from Blackpool said.

"They came in and Bill Clinton sat near the door with his back to the window and Kevin Spacey sat next to him.

"I recognised him because I'd seen him in Seven and American Beauty.

"The staff were running around like headless chickens."

Mr Clinton is known for his love of fast food, ordered a steak burger meal with large fries and coke.

Mr Spacey also had a burger, while the pair shared chicken nuggets.

Mr Griezans said the former president told him: "Thanks for a great meal. "It's good to taste a bit of American food. I've not eaten all day and I'm starving."

Staff at the restaurant had been on edge because they were told that the President of McDonald's was in Blackpool, said Mr Griezans.

"Everything was sorted then Bill Clinton walks in. It was gobsmacking," he said.
