Political profile

Stephen Hepburn was first elected to the Labour stronghold of Jarrow in 1997, having previously worked as a research assistant for outgoing MP Don Dixon, and serving as deputy leader of the local council.

He has campaigned strongly on the subject of compensation for workers with asbestos poisoning.

Much of his political interest is focused on the unemployment in his constituency, and he is a keen advocate of the local manufacturing base.
