As the election campaign approaches the voters give their verdict on the party leaders and their policies in BBC News Online latest exclusive opinion poll.

A detailed breakdown of the survey results can be seen below.

More surveys will be published during the coming election campaign.

ICM polled 1,033 adults in England, Wales and Scotland between Tuesday 24 April and Tuesday 1 May, 270 of them by telephone and the rest by email. The results have been weighted to the profile of all adults.

Q.7 Which of the main party leaders would you describe as a strong leader?

Q.9 * Which of the main party leaders would you say understands the needs of people like me?
Q.10 * Which of the main party leaders would you describe as someone you would most like to share a drink with?
Q.11 * Which of the main party leaders would you describe as being honest?
Q.12 * Which of the main party leaders would you describe as someone who is sincere?
Q.13 * Which of the main party leaders would you describe as the most charismatic?
Q.14 In your opinion has the government dealt with the foot-and-mouth crisis well, badly or neither particularly well or badly?
Q.15 Do you believe the government when they say that the foot-and-mouth outbreak is under control?
Q.16 In your opinion should Tony Blair go-ahead with a 7 June election?
Q.17 If Tony Blair calls the election for 7 June, would you be more likely to vote Labour, less likely or would it make no difference?
