A dentist and his ex-lover have pleaded not guilty at Belfast Crown Court to two murders almost 19 years ago.

Colin Howell, 51, formerly of Glebe Road, Castlerock, and Hazel Stewart, 47, of Ballystrone Road, Coleraine are charged with murdering their spouses.

The bodies of Leslie Howell and Trevor Buchanan were found in a fume-filled car in Castlerock on 19 May 1991.

At a brief hearing on Friday, the judge set a date in September for the next hearing in the case.

A coroner originally ruled that Mrs Howell and RUC constable Trevor Buchanan had taken their own lives, but the case was reopened last year after new information was given to the police.
