Jobless numbers falling in Derry

4,899 people are now claiming Jobseeker's Allowance in Derry

The percentage of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance in the Derry City area has fallen for the first month since the economic crisis began.

The latest government figures show 7.0% of the working age population are claiming Jobseeker's Allowance, compared to 7.2% last month.

The number of claimants has decreased by 86, to 4,813.

The Derry City Council area still has the highest percentage rate of unemployment in Northern Ireland.

Strabane has the second highest percentage rate of unemployment, with 7.1% of adults of working age claiming Jobseeker's Allowance.

In Limavady, the rate is 6.3%, an improvement of 0.3% compared to last month.
