IT staff to strike over job cuts

Staff at an IT firm in Londonderry are to go on strike this week in a dispute over jobs, pay and pensions.

The 160 workers at Fujitsu are joining the three-day national strike which starts on Thursday. A picket will be placed outside the Timber Quay office.

The trade union Unite is battling with the company over a pay freeze and plans to make 1200 workers redundant.

Unite spokesman, Richard Dane has accused the management of not providing clear information about the job cuts.

"It's been impossible for anybody, outside the company HR department to ascertain the numbers involved and exactly where the axe is going to fall."

The Japanese IT giant announced proposals for 1200 redundancies across the UK, it is not yet known how this will affect the staff in Derry.
