Pair charged over drugs seizure

Bishop Street courthouse

Two Londonderry men have been granted bail on charges connected to a drugs seizure in the city on Thursday.

Stephen Patton, 22, and Iain Canning, 21, both of Spencer Road, were charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine, LSD, ecstasy and cannabis.

The city's magistrates court heard both men admitted possessing the drugs but denied intending to supply them.

A police officer said they claimed they were holding the drugs for other people, whom they declined to name.

He said police officers had found documents linking both men to a recent trip to Amsterdam.

The pair were released on bail to appear in court again next month.

They were banned from using mobile phones and the internet, ordered to observe a night-time curfew and told to stay away from each other.

The drugs were discovered in the Spencer Road and Ardgrange areas of the city last Thursday.
