Bus route deemed "too dangerous"

Ulsterbus
Translink has withdrawn a rural bus service over safety fears

Translink has announced it is to withdraw one of its bus services in County Fermanagh because of safety concerns.

A company spokesperson said a rural road in Mulleek had been assessed as "unsuitable" for Ulsterbus vehicles.

Local resident Noel Coyle said families in the area have been left wondering how their children will get to school.

He added that his children have used the service for 15 years and there has never been a bus accident on the road.

Mr Coyle said schoolchildren were told by their bus driver on the first day of their new school term that their bus service to Enniskillen was to be withdrawn by the end of the week.

He said Translink had not contacted parents living along the road and said the decision had come "totally out of the blue".

In a statement Translink said: "From Friday 4th September, the morning Ulsterbus service to Enniskillen will operate via the Boa Island Road.

"The health and safety of all our passengers and staff is of top priority at all times."
