The Irish Coastguard has sent a helicopter to the area

A search in Dundalk Bay in the Republic of Ireland has been called off.

It followed reports that a light aircraft had come down off the Carlingford Peninsula.

Dublin Coastguard, which was co-ordinating the search, said that they were treating the report as a false alarm.

The Irish Coastguard helicopter was involved in the search operation as well as a number of shore units.
