Communities must 'work together'

Fountain area, Londonderry
Lynn Fleming says community workers on the ground need to communicate

A Sinn Fein councillor has accused loyalist community workers of not doing enough to tackle trouble at sectarian flash points in Londonderry.

Lynn Fleming said the response after recent clashes in Currynierin and Tullyalley and at the Fountain - Bishop Street interface was disappointing.

She said both sides must work together to tackle the problem.

"If there was a genuine willingness to engage then I think a lot of these issues could be resolved or prevented."

"The whole point of a network between the two sides of the community is being able to access one another at a time like this to try to prevent trouble.

"But there seems to be resistance," she said.
