Omagh hospital project concerns

Tyrone County Hospital
In March the hospital stopped admitting acutely ill patients

There are concerns in Omagh that the new hospital project is running behind schedule.

The procurement process for the scheme was due to have been completed at the end of March this year but that was put back and has still not been completed.

Local DUP councillor Tom Buchanan said it needs to be done by late autumn, or the hospital may not be ready by 2013.

The Western Trust said the business case for the project is being reviewed, to ensure it remains value for money.

It also said the completion date for the £190m hospital remains 2013.

Acute inpatient care was withdrawn from the Tyrone County Hospital in March.

The Department of Health have said services to be rolled out in the new hospital will include day case cardiology services, additional outpatients clinics, the appointment of a specialist children's nurse and new consultant-led diabetes services.
