Child 'used' in city gun attack

police

There have been claims that a child was used to lure a shooting victim to his front door in Londonderry.

A 26-year-old man was hit three times in the lower legs after going to the front door of his Florence Street home at about 2350 BST on Sunday.

His injuries are not thought to be life threatening. The male attacker left the scene on foot.

Sinn Fein councillor Maeve McLaughlin says local people are shocked that a child may have been used.

"It is not quite confirmed or clear, but there is certainly an indication that there was a young child initially used to knock the door, to get the young man to come to the front door in the first place," she said.

"I spoke to the young man's partner and friends this morning and they are all very shocked and angry."
