Shop assistant held at knifepoint

Police

Two men who robbed a shop assistant at knife point in Derry have been caught on CCTV.

A 19-year-old woman was serving at Racecourse Stores on Sunday at about 1830 BST when the men jumped over the counter and took money from the till.

It is the second time the shop on Racecourse Road has been robbed.

The shop owner, Liam Clifford, said it was a frightening attack: "It's not everyday you get a knife put at your throat and are forced to open a till."

"This is the second time this has happened in three months, last time it was an imitation firearm they used," he added.

Mr Clifford said he will not close the shop.

"I will not give in to these people even if I have to stay here myself all day every day."

Sinn Fein Councillor Tony Hassan condemned the attack: "This is the second time this has happened and it's not on."

"This store is a vital service to the community and anyone that knows the people who've done this should come forward."
