A 31-year-old man has admitted murdering his 17-year-old girlfriend in Limavady in November 2007.

Terence Philip Whiting, from Kent, but with an address at Maghaberry Prison, made a guilty plea on the first day of his trial at Londonderry Crown court.

The body of Wendy Ann McAteer was found at Blackburn Path beside her former school, St Mary's. Her family broke down in tears in court on Monday.

The case has been adjourned for sentencing in April.

Miss McAteer had been sharing a house with Whiting at Robertson Crescent in the town at the time of her murder.

He had initially pleaded not guilty to her murder.
