A hoax 999 call in Londonderry at the weekend "put lives at risk", police in the city have said.

Three police units, two ambulance service vehicles and two fire appliances were sent to a report of a three-car collision in Ballymagroarty.

Detectives said the call was made from a payphone in Derry on Saturday.

Hoax calls "can prevent police and other emergency services from reaching people needing immediate assistance," a PSNI spokesman said.
