Rory McHugh took his father Charlie's place on Strabane District Council

The son of a Sinn Féin councillor who died earlier this year has taken his father's place on Strabane District Council.

Rory McHugh was co-opted into his father Charlie's seat without opposition at a meeting on Tuesday.

The chairman of Strabane District Council, Jarlath McNulty, said Rory was a longstanding member of Sinn Féin in Castlederg.

Charlie McHugh died suddenly at his home in Castlederg in October.
