Go-ahead for Foyle's third bridge

The bridge will feature a cycle path

A third bridge is to be built across the River Foyle at Londonderry.

The foot and cycle bridge will link the Guildhall on the Cityside to Ebrington on the Waterside.

The project was confirmed by the social development minister, Margaret Ritchie, in a letter to her SDLP colleague, Foyle MP Mark Durkan.

Mark Durkan said the bridge was positive news for Derry. "In many ways we will have a cross-river city centre created," he said.

"That is one of the reasons it has secured funding from the EU peace programme, because it is seen as really creating an extra dimension in terms of trying to create a shared city," he said.
