Man charged with rape, murder bid

A 32-year-old man from County Clare has appeared in court charged with the rape and attempted murder of a woman in Londonderry.

Patrick McNamara, of no fixed abode, denies attempted murder, rape, assault and making threats to kill in a house in Ardanlee in Culmore on Tuesday.

A police officer told Londonderry Magistrates Court the accused allegedly raped the married woman four times.

Mr McNamara was remanded in custody to 8 October.
