Day-trip pensioners' coach stoned

Gangs of youths in Londonderry have stoned a coach carrying pensioners returning from a day trip to Donegal.

Windows in the coach were broken in the incident, which happened in the Brookdale area of Galliagh on Thursday. No-one was injured in the attack.

Coach company owner Don Reading said the elderly passengers were terrified.

"What mindset have these people got, to stone a coach-load of pensioners from their own area, probably their own grannies and grandads," he said.

"They are absolutely traumatised - they couldn't believe this could happen to them, by their own people in their own area."

Mary McLaughlin, who organised the outing, said she was appalled at what happened.

"I'm so angry, really really angry that there are thugs out there that just have no respect for anybody," she said.
