Brothel manager is fined by court

She appeared at Londonderry Magistrates court on Monday

A 38-year-old woman has admitted managing a brothel at a flat in the Waterside area of Londonderry.

Maxine Georgina Noel, from Station Road, Tipton, Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to keeping and managing the brothel in a flat in Victoria Court.

She admitted arranging appointments, keeping records and banking money on 29 October 2007.

The solicitor for the defence said Noel was no longer involved in prostitution. She was fined £500.

The court heard that police had searched the flat because they suspected it was being used as a brothel.

They found mobile phones, financial records and money associated with prostitution.

A prosecution lawyer said a bedroom in the flat had been especially set up to receive guests.

The solicitor for the defence said Noel's involvement in the incident had caused her great distress.

He said when police searched the flat they were looking for someone else who was more deeply involved in prostitution.
