A County Tyrone man has drowned while on honeymoon in Cyprus.

Newlywed Eamon McGlinchey, 38, from Coalisland, had been on holiday with his wife Sinead in the Coral Bay area of the island.

Mr McGlinchey's parish priest Father John Burns said the whole community was in mourning for the McGlinchey family.

"Less than two weeks ago they were celebrating the joys of marriage and now that joy and jubilation has turned to sorrow and grief," he said.

"I have been at the house with Eamon's parents and sister, and the shock and grief is still phenomenal as one might guess."

Sinn Féin MLA Michelle O'Neill, said it was a tragedy. "He was a well liked young man who got on with everybody," she said.

Wedding

"They just got married Saturday week ago and many people from the area attended the wedding and celebrated it with them."

Mr McGlinchey got into difficulties while swimming in the sea.

He was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Paphos where he was pronounced dead.

A post mortem examination is to be carried out on Mr McGlinchey to determine the exact cause of death.

His body will then be flown home so funeral arrangements can get under way.
