Workers face redundancy struggle

Staff at a Derry call centre are struggling to secure a good redundancy deal, Foyle MP Mark Durkan has said.

Workers at the Anderson Manning call centre have received an offer above the statutory minimum, but he insists the offer should be at least £200 higher.

The company employs 150 people in Bangor and 50 in Derry and are expected to make an announcement this week.

Mr Durkan has asked his Executive colleagues Arlene Foster and Sir Reg Empey for help to secure a better deal.

"This would help the workers meet the inevitable costs they will face as they make arrangements for new employment."

"It would also provide some recognition of the service which these workers have provided to Anderson Manning throughout the past five years," he added.

Some employees are being offered a statutory minimum package despite the fact they have not completed the qualifying period of two years' service.

Staff at Anderson Manning were warned that the office in Rosemount was likely to close following the sale to Forest Leaf Properties Ltd.
