The girlfriend of a man murdered in Londonderry a year ago has appealed for help from the public to help catch his killer.

Bryan McGlynn, 28, a doorman originally from Strabane, was shot dead in front of Jennifer Cowley at his home in the Fountain Hill area on 3 June 2007.

Ms Cowley said she was unable to put that night out of her mind, and said Bryan's family "deserved justice".

A 27-year-old man was arrested last week but later released without charge.

"Bryan and I had a wonderful relationship and I miss him very much," said Ms Cowley.

"I still cannot understand why this happened.

"If there is someone out there who knows who killed Bryan they should call the police," she said.

Appealing for the public's help, Detective Chief Inspector Frankie Taylor said it was "a shocking and disgraceful cold-blooded execution".

DCI Taylor said Mr McGlynn and his girlfriend had been in bed at about 0330 BST when a masked man entered the bedroom and shot him.

"He fell to the floor in front of his terrified girlfriend, and died at the scene," he said.

"It was a very unsocial hour, but we have studied CCTV footage and we know there were quite a few people in the area of Fountain Hill."

He said detectives were particularly interested in finding out more about two cars which were seen being driven around the area at the time.

"A Vauxhall Corsa with distinctive metallic purple/blue paintwork, and a dark-coloured Ford Escort hatchback were captured on CCTV," he said.

At the time, the INLA said it carried out the murder.
