Motorist killed in bus collision

Police accident

A man has died after a crash involving a bus carrying 24 schoolchildren and a car in County Donegal.

It happened on the main Letterkenny to Ballybofey road at about 1630 BST on Monday. The Bus Eireann was heading from Londonderry to Donegal town.

The 34-year-old car driver was pronounced dead at Letterkenny General Hospital.

A student from the Royal and Prior School in Raphoe and a man aged in his 70s suffered minor injuries.

Following the collision the bus, which was fitted with seatbelts, turned over on its side in a field.

The road remains closed while Gardai carry out a forensic crash scene investigation and is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.
