A speeding motorist who failed to stop for police found sanctuary in the car park of a Free Presbyterian Church in County Tyrone.

The driver was seen driving into the car park of the church in Caledon Road, Aughnacloy, on 11 May.

When police tried to follow they were blocked by members of the church.

The police eventually withdrew from the scene and said attempts to identify the vehicle and the driver have so far been unsuccessful.

DUP councillor Samuel Brush said there had been a youth service going on in the church at the time.

"The car park was pretty full of cars, and the elders had asked the police to wait outside the grounds of the church while the rest of the congregation came out.

"The police didn't wait - perhaps they couldn't wait."

Mr Brush said anyone who knew who the driver was should report him to the police.
