Shock over child abuser's parole

Abused pupils attended Bangor Grammar School
The victim of a deputy head teacher convicted child abuse has said he was shocked to learn about his abuser's early release on parole.

The former County Down Bangor Grammar School vice principal is serving a seven-year sentence for abusing young boys.

Lindsay Brown: Seven year sentences for child sex abuse
Brown was given a seven-year sentence in January 1998 when he was convicted of nine counts of indecent assault and two of gross indecency against male pupils in his charge between 1968 and 1991.

The former religious studies teacher from Bangor has served two years and four months of that sentence and still has at least a year to serve, including remission.

One of Mr Brown's male victims told the BBC he was "disgusted" by the decision to release Brown on parole.

"The whole case that happened in Downpatrick, you're always thinking about it. I'm always thinking about it.

"He's going to be welcomed back to his community, by his church, by his youth club, all that he belonged to."

The Northern Ireland Office said Brown would not be put onto the convicted sex offender's register until his full release.

The conditions of his parole are that he should have no contact with his former victims and no unsupervised contact with children under 17.
