Pipe bomb left on Newry street sparks security alert


A pipe bomb which was left on a street in Newry has been made safe, police have said.

The army were called to the scene on Monday afternoon after the bomb was discovered at Drumgullion Avenue.

Houses were evacuated as army bomb experts dealt with the device which has been taken away for examination.

The alert ended at about 2115 BST. Last week, a pipe bomb exploded outside the family home of a police officer in Newry. No-one was injured.
