Residents moved due to hoax alert

Bomb disposal squad

A number of people in Londonderry had to be moved from their homes on Thursday night because of a security alert.

The alert at Abercorn Place in the city has since been declared a hoax.

A controlled explosion was carried out on a suspicious object which was then removed for examination.

Residents were able to return to their homes shortly before 0100 BST.
