Pipe bomb found at Homebase, Newtownabbey store

The Army was called to the scene following the discovery of the pipe bomb

A pipe bomb has been recovered from a DIY superstore in Newtownabbey.

The object was found at Homebase on the Longwood Road at about 1330 BST on Saturday afternoon.

Police evacuated the store while army technical officers moved in to examine the scene. The alert was over a short time later.

Police confirmed that a viable pipe bomb was recovered but released no further details about the circumstances of the discovery.
