A security alert is under way in County Antrim as army technical officers examine a getaway car used in an armed robbery.

Three robbers, one with a handgun, stole a large sum of money from a cash-in-transit security van at Mallusk Road, Newtownabbey, at 0900 BST.

A car was later found abandoned close to a sports club on the Mallusk Road.

The road between Highpark and Hightown Roads has been closed to traffic as the security operation continues.

Police said a "substantial sum" was taken by the robbers.

They approached a security guard at about 0900 BST on Tuesday and threatened him before taking the cash.

The guard was shaken by his ordeal.
