Cash box found after Lisburn raid

Police tape

Police have recovered the cash box from an armed robbery in Lisburn.

A shot was fired by two masked men during the theft from a cash-in-transit van at Longstone Street just before midday on Thursday.

Police later dealt with a suspicious vehicle at Glenties Drive in Lenadoon in west Belfast and recovered the cash box. The security alert is now over.

The vehicle has been removed by police for further examination.

In a separate unconnected incident, a man with a gun has tried to rob a hotel in Newry.

He confronted staff at the hotel on the Belfast Road just after 1000 BST on Thursday, but fled empty handed.
