police car

Six men are being questioned over dissident republican activity after the vehicle they were in was stopped in Stewartstown, County Tyrone.

Police are investigating a possible link to an earlier hijacking.

At about 0025 GMT on Friday, a couple sitting in a beige Renault Megane at the marina car park in Ballyronan were approached by three masked men.

They smashed the passenger and driver side windows and told the couple to get out before driving away in the car.

The couple were shaken following their ordeal but were not injured.

The Renault Megane has not yet been found and police are keen to hear from anyone who may know where it is.

They are also appealing for any witnesses who were in this area and who may have witnessed this incident or saw the vehicle being driven away to contact them.
