Motorist in Newry roadside attack ordeal

Police tape

A man has been attacked by three youths in Newry after stopping his car to answer a call on his mobile phone.

He pulled in on the Camlough Road, near the Derrybeg area, at about 1730 GMT on Monday.

Three youths believed to be in their late teens approached the car and began hitting it with bricks and bottles.

When he got out of his car to confront them, he was kicked on the leg. After they failed to grab the keys from the ignition, he managed to drive away.

Appealing for information, police said they wanted to talk to a number of motorists who stopped to help the man.
