Two men have appeared in court in Newry charged with terrorism offences.

Niall Malachy Ward, 23, of Dalton Close in Armagh was charged with the possession of a pipe bomb on 11 March.

William Wong, 21, also of Dalton Close in the city was charged with possession of a lighter and latex gloves with intent to commit a terrorist attack.

No application was made for bail and the two were remanded in custody to appear at a later date.

The men were arrested on Thursday as part of a police operation against suspected dissident republicans in Armagh.

As part of the same operation, police arrested three other men and two women over the weekend.

The five people who were arrested have now been released without charge.
