Mynt nightclub loses entertainment licence

The owners of Mynt said they would fight the council's decision

One of Belfast's leading nightclubs has lost its entertainment licence after police objected to it being renewed.

The unanimous decision to withdraw Mynt's licence was made by the city council's licensing committee.

The council said it was based on police allegations relating to drugs on the premises, alcohol being served after hours and incidents of assault.

The club at Dunbar Link in the city's Cathedral Quarter said it would be "rigorously appealing the decision".

In a statement, the council said its licensing committee "took the view that in light of the available evidence, the applicant was unfit to hold a licence".

"The committee was also concerned for the safety of patrons," it added.

Mynt said it was "sorely disappointed" by the decision and would appeal.
