Moygashel
The robbery took place in Moygashel in County Tyrone

A couple in their sixties have been assaulted during an armed robbery at their home near Dungannon, County Tyrone, on Friday night.

Two men, one armed with a handgun, the other with a baseball bat, forced their way into the house on the Mullybannon Road near Moygashel at 2200 GMT.

The male victim, who owns a filling station in the area, was taken to hospital with a severe head wound.

He is said to be in a stable condition while his wife suffered minor injuries.

The two men escaped with a sum of money.

DUP MLA Lord Morrow has called for an increased police presence in the area.

He added: "In the South Tyrone area, we have had a litany of this kind of stuff and quite frankly the people are outraged.

"They (the victims) are very successful business people in the community and highly respected."
