Gun victim attacked by three men

police officer

A 47-year-old man is being treated in hospital following a paramilitary-style shooting in west Belfast.

A police spokesperson said the victim had received bullet wounds to the knees and ankles.

It is understood three masked men were involved in the shooting which happened in the Beechmount Parade area shortly after 2100 GMT on Monday.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.

It is not clear who was behind the latest attack though dissident republican groups have been behind an upsurge in similar shootings in the past year.
