A security alert in south Armagh which was disrupting cross-border traffic has ended, the police have said.

An Army bomb disposal team was sent to examine a vehicle parked under a bridge on the A1 near Newry and a number of items were removed for examination.

The stretch of road between Cloghogue and Jonesborough which was closed during the alert has now re-opened.

Police praised locals for their patience during the alert.
