Irish police arrested the man near Dundalk

A 33-year-old man from Northern Ireland is being questioned by Irish police following an ammunition find.

Armed police stopped a car on the M1 near Dundalk in County Louth on Wednesday.

Irish police said that a small quantity of bullets and a balaclava were found in the vehicle and that a man, from Newry, was arrested.

It is believed the arrest was part of the ongoing operation against dissident republicans.

The car was stopped at Heynestown as it was being driven north. The vehicle was seized and is being examined.
