Man arrested over alleyway rape

Woman attacked in alley behind bar

A 21-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the rape of a teenager in east Belfast.

The 19-year-old was walking back from a shop along Newtownards Road, near Dee Street, at about 0530 GMT on Saturday when the attacker came up behind her.

He dragged her into an alleyway behind a pub and assaulted her.

About 30 minutes before the attack, the woman had taken a taxi from a fast-food outlet. Police appealed for the driver to help them with their enquiries.

The teenager received medical attention following her ordeal.
