There is a history of tension between loyalists in Carrickfergus

The arrests of five men in the Carrickfergus area is being linked to a loyalist gang.

The men were arrested by police on Monday morning in connection with a police investigation into organised crime in the area.

The men were taken to Antrim police station for questioning.

Two years ago, tensions were high in Carrickfergus as rival loyalist gangs clashed. The violence culminated in a suspected gun attack.

In 2007, a court was told that death threats had been made against more than 90 people caught up in a loyalist feud in the Carrick area.
