Man dies in hit and run incident

A young man has been killed in a hit-and-run road traffic accident in Londonderry.

Martin Gallagher, 24, from Sandale Park in the city died after being hit by a car on the Racecourse Road.

The accident occurred shortly before 0220 GMT on Sunday. A 22-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released on bail.

Mr Gallagher was a keen member of Foyle Valley running club and had completed a number of marathons.

Meanwhile a 17-year-old boy is critically ill after a car in which he was travelling crashed in Armagh.

The accident on the Newtownhamilton Road happened on Sunday just after midnight.

Another 17-year-old boy who was in the same vehicle has been discharged from hospital.
