The gang demolished a wall during the ATM raid in Warrenpoint

A cash machine has been stolen from a petrol station in Warrenpoint, County Down, by thieves using a digger.

Six hooded men stole the ATM, which contained a substantial amount of money, from the premises at Upper Dromore Road at about 0315 BST.

They used a digger, which was parked nearby, to demolish the wall surrounding the machine.

Police believe the ATM was then loaded onto a white pick-up truck and driven away.

Detectives are looking to speak to witnesses or anyone who noticed the white vehicle or a grey coloured 3 series BMW also believed to have been used by the gang in the area.
